04 — How to use it
Run it like a program, not a download
- Inventory and disposition first
Sections 1 and 4 of the questionnaire plus the decision matrix produce a per-application 6R disposition. Everything downstream — landing zone sizing, wave plan, budget — depends on this being honest.
- Build the landing zone before wave 1
The checklist's landing-zone items are entry criteria for the first migration wave, not parallel workstreams. Migrating into an unfinished landing zone is how you get two datacenters.
- Wave by dependency, not by enthusiasm
Use the project plan's wave discipline: independent, low-risk workloads first; the hairy dependency clusters last, with extra rehearsal.
- Rehearse the hard parts
Cutover rehearsals and rollback drills are in the validation plan for a reason — the first time you execute a cutover should not be cutover day.
- Declare done per wave
Each wave closes with validation green, decommission scheduled, and cost actuals vs. model. 'Mostly migrated' is not migrated.
